Nitrocellulose
Nitrocellulose (also: cellulose nitrate, flash paper, flash cotton, guncotton, flash string) is a highly flammable compound formed by nitrating cellulose through exposure to nitric acid or another powerful nitrating agent. Nitrocellulose is applied for production of nitrocellulose lacquers and nitrocellulose enamels, as well as for production of films and special chemistry.
Nitrocellulose is transported with usage of wetting agent:
- Nitrocellulose wetted in ethyl alcohol;
- Nitrocellulose wetted in butanol;
- Nitrocellulose wetted in polypropylene alcohol;
- Nitrocellulose wetted in water.
Colloxylin of E-type is soluble in ether solvents (to 100%) and hardly soluble in ethyl alcohol (4 – 20%). It makes hard films with very good mechanical properties

Colloxylin of A-type is soluble in spirit solvents and in ethyl alcohol (to 100%). It makes films with thermoplastic properties and good mechanical features.
